Maximilian Reichert
Max Reichert, MD went to Medical School at the University of Heidelbergand the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He graduated from TUM with summacum laude. During his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in the laboratory of Dr. Anil K. Rustgi, he discovered important mechanisms of transcriptional regulation of pancreatic cancer cell plasticity using three-dimensional (3D) culture models. Back in Germany, Dr. Reichert received the prestigious Max-Eder Fellowship of the German Cancer Aid and completed his clinical training in the Department of Gastroenterology directed by Dr. Roland M. Schmid at TUM University Hospital.
Max Reichert, MD holds the Professorship for Translational Pancreatic Cancer Research and is on the Board of Directors of the Center for Organoid Systems (COS) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). As consulting physician, he is part of the leadership of the Clinic for Internal Medicine II (Gastroenterology) and he is heading Pancreatic Cancer Clinic of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich TUM. He founded the Center for Translational Pancreatic Cancer Research at the TUM University Hospital.
Max Reichert’s research focuses on the molecular under pinnings of cellular plasticity driven intra-tumoral heterogeneity in cancer initiation and dissemination as well as resistance to chemotherapy. Developing translational concepts for precision oncology using innovative in vivo and in vitro model systems such as advanced organoid models to address fundamental questions related to both basic as well as translational cancer biology.
Ultimately, his aim is to develop novel therapeutic approaches to induce therapeutic vulnerabilities which can be tested in multicenter randomized clinical trials and exploited in clinical care to improve pancreatic cancer patient outcomes.
