I am Yuta Ikami, a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Anguraj Sadanandam’s lab at the Institute of Cancer Research, UK, where I study tumour heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer. Originally trained as a dentist and oral surgeon, I earned my PhD in Japan, where I investigated the biology and biochemistry of oral cancer. Motivated by the clinical challenges of treatment-resistant malignancies, I shifted my focus to pancreatic cancer, one of the most aggressive and complex tumour types. Under Prof. Sadanandam’s mentorship, whose lab has made significant contributions to this field, my current research combines spatial profiling using pancreas orthotopic mouse models with single-cell RNA sequencing to dissect cellular diversity and tumour evolution. By integrating clinical insight with advanced molecular techniques, my goal is to inform the development of precision treatment strategies that specifically target cancer cells with distinct and unique characteristics.
