Ugo Boggi
Ugo Boggi, MD, FEBS, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Pisa and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. A globally recognized expert in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, as well as pancreas and kidney transplantation, he is a pioneer in robotic surgery. He performed the world’s first robotic pancreas transplant, the first robotic distal spleno-renal shunt, and the first European robotic kidney transplant. He has one of the largest experiences worldwide in pancreatic surgery, with over 2,300 resections, including more than 600 robotic pancreatectomies and over 1,300 vascular resections.
Dr. Boggi has authored over 550 peer-reviewed publications, more than 80 book chapters, and three books. He is Editor-in-Chief of Updates in Surgery and founding editor of the European Journal of Transplantation. A former President of the Italian Society for Organ and Tissue Transplantation, he currently leads the Italian Chapter of the IHPBA. He organized the first global consensus conference on pancreas transplantation (2019) and the REDISCOVER meeting on borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (2023). He is the founding chair of the Italian Registry for Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery (IGOMIPS), and a founding member of both the European (E-MIPS) and International (I-MIPS) Consortia on Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery.
