Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden

Dr. Tina Gustavell is a registered nurse and researcher at Karolinska Institutet, specializing in person-cantered care for patients with pancreatic cancer. With a PhD in medical science and clinical experience at Karolinska University Hospital, she has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for individuals undergoing surgery for upper gastrointestinal cancers, particularly pancreatic cancer. Her doctoral thesis explored the use of Interaktor, an interactive app designed to support patients post-pancreatic surgery through symptom reporting and self-care guidance. This innovative tool enables real-time communication with nurse navigators, helping reduce symptom burden and enhance quality of life. Gustavell’s research demonstrated the app’s effectiveness in facilitating recovery and empowering patients during vulnerable treatment phases. She continues to lead and collaborate on projects focused on postoperative recovery, self-management, and digital health interventions for pancreatic and periampullary cancer. Her work includes developing a diabetes diary for patients following total pancreatectomy, aiming to strengthen patient learning and autonomy. Through her clinical and academic roles, Gustavell bridges research and practice, advocating for tailored, tech-supported care that addresses both physical and emotional needs. Her contributions are shaping the future of nursing in oncology, with a strong emphasis on digital innovation and compassionate care.
