Consultant General and Pancreatic Surgeon at Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João, Porto, Portugal, where he heads the Peritoneal Malignancy Surface Unit. He holds a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto.
His clinical and research focus is on pancreatic surgery and peritoneal surface oncology, including cytoreductive surgery, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and pressurised intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC), with particular interest in extending these strategies to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with peritoneal metastasis. He is the Principal Investigator of the IGNIS trial, a prospective multicentre feasibility study evaluating CRS-HIPEC combined with pancreatectomy for PDAC with synchronous peritoneal metastases, currently enrolling across centres in Europe and China. He was recently selected as a member of the ESSO Education & Training Committee's Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Working Group.
