Dr. Pelin Bağcı is a physician-scientist specializing in oncologic pathology, with a focus on pancreatic, hepatobiliary, and gastrointestinal system tumors. She currently leads research at the Spatial Tumor Tissue Laboratory at the Botton Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Center in Lisbon, where she explores tumor microenvironments, and spatial diagnostics in cancer. With over two decades of clinical and academic experience, Dr. Bağcı previously served as Professor of Pathology at Marmara University in Istanbul. Her earlier training includes a research fellowship at Emory University under the mentorship of Dr. Volkan Adsay, a global authority in pancreatic pathology. Dr. Bağcı has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals and holds an official Scopus H index of 23. Her work has significantly advanced the histopathological classification and staging of pancreatic, gallbladder, and ampullary neoplasms, as well as the prognostic assessment of tumor-infiltrating immune cells. She is also recognized for award-winning contributions to cytopathology and endocrine tumor research. She serves on the editorial boards of several medical journals, including the Turkish Journal of Pathology, and is an active member of multiple national and international pathology societies, such as the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the European Society of Pathology, and the Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society.
