Martin Schneider
Martin Schneider received his MD degree in 2002 from the University of Freiburg (Germany) and holds an MBA in healthcare management.
He pursued postdoctoral research at the Vesalius Research Center in Leuven (Belgium) under the guidance of Peter Carmeliet, and clinical training in general, gastrointestinal, HPB and transplant surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital (Germany) under the guidance of Markus Büchler. In 2015, he was appointed full professor of translational surgical oncology at the University of Heidelberg. From 2018 to 2023, he headed the clinical section of surgical oncology at Heidelberg University Hospital. Since 2023, he holds the chair of surgery and serves as head of the department general-, visceral-, thoracic- and transplant surgery at Giessen University Hospital (Germany).
His clinical focus is on surgical and multidisciplinary treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. His research focus is on hypoxia signaling in visceral disease and tumor development.
