Louisa Bolm
Louisa Bolm is an abdominal surgeon and clinician scientist at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein in Luebeck, Germany. After completing an MD-PhD program focusing on translational studies in pancreatic surgery, Dr. Bolm developed a passion for pancreatology, and investigated the role of desmoplasia in pancreatic cancer across clinical, pathological and translational study settings. In 2020, Dr. Bolm moved to Boston for a German Research Foundation-funded surgical research fellowship at the Pancreatology Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School led by Dr. Fernandez-Del Castillo. There, she was awarded the Warshaw Fellow Grant and conducted translational studies on stroma-targeted therapies in pancreatic cancer, clinical imaging studies, research on pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, and large-scale pancreatic cancer outcomes research. Back in Luebeck, Dr. Bolm expanded her research group and established new focus areas for AI and imaging, for patient-reported outcomes and prehabilitation by establishing multicenter prospective clinical trials. She has secured major national and European funding, including support from the Else Kröner Research Foundation and the German Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, she continues her specialized training in HPB and robotic surgery and keeps expanding her research activities.
