Since the beginning of my academic career, I have maintained a strong interest in genome biology and functional genomics, which led me to begin a PhD at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Maria Blasco. My doctoral work centered on understanding the role of the lncRNA TERRA in cancer and pluripotency. These findings resulted in several first-author publications (Nat. Commun., 2016; Nat. Commun., 2018; eLife, 2019). In 2020, I joined the Institute of Molecular Oncology (IMO), directed by Prof. Roland Rad, where, since 2023, I have served as a senior investigator, leading my own independent research projects. My current work focuses on the development of CRISPR-based functional genomics platforms applied to both basic and translational cancer research. These include: (i) the generation of a genome-wide CRISPR platform to identify long non-coding RNAs essential for cancer cell viability (Nat. Methods, 2024); (ii) the development of a combinatorial CRISPR approach to systematically map genetic interactions driving drug synergy (Nature, under revision); and (iii) the identification of gene regulators of EMT in PDAC through phenotypic screens. Additionally, my research has been supported by several competitive fellowships and awards, including the EMBO Fellowship and the Ramón y Cajal Fellowship; the latter will allow me to start my own lab next year.
