Juan Carlos López-Gil is a postdoctoral researcher studying the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer stem cell plasticity, tumor evolution, and therapy resistance in pancreatic cancer. His work combines cancer biology, immunology, advanced microscopy, and single cells and spatial transcriptomics to understand how inflammation and genetic alterations shape tumor progression and identify new therapeutic opportunities. He obtained degrees in Pharmacy and Biotechnology from Universidad Francisco de Vitoria and completed his PhD at the Biomedical Research Institute "Sols Morreale" (CSIC-UAM) as a La Caixa INPhINIT Fellow. His doctoral research led to the identification of novel immune evasion mechanisms in pancreatic cancer stem cells and included an international research stay in Zürich, contributing to a first-author publication in Gut. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), supported by competitive fellowships from CNIO’s Friends and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). He has also been awarded an EMBO Scientific Exchange Fellowship to expand his research into spatial transcriptomics through an international collaboration at Ospedale Gemelli in Rome.
