Associate Professor Jason Lee is Group Leader of the Epigenetics and Precision Medicine Laboratory at the Frazer Institute, The University of Queensland. His research examines how epigenetic mechanisms shape tumour progression, therapeutic resistance and anti-tumour immunity, with the goal of translating these discoveries into new precision treatments for difficult-to-treat cancers.
A major focus of his laboratory is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, where his team investigates how epigenetic enzymes regulate tumour immune visibility, antigen presentation, stromal fibrosis and resistance to immunotherapy. This work has identified EHMT2/G9a as a promising therapeutic target capable of reprogramming both cancer cells and the tumour microenvironment. His broader research program spans other solid tumours including breast, ovarian and brain cancers and integrates functional genomics, patient-derived models, spatial multi-omics and drug development.
Associate Professor Lee has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and has secured competitive support from national and international funding bodies, including the NHMRC, MRFF, US Department of Defense, Cancer Council Queensland, PanKind and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. His translational experience also includes a Medical Research Future Fund Researcher Exchange Development within Industry Fellowship and biotechnology investment experience with IP Group Australia. He is committed to developing clinically actionable epigenetic and immune-based therapies through multidisciplinary collaboration.
