Dr. Faiyaz Notta is a Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, and Canada Research Chair in Pancreatic Cancer. He also serves as Lead for the Pancreatic Cancer Translational Research Initiative at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR).  
Dr. Notta earned his Ph.D. in stem cell biology and leukemia at the University of Toronto under Dr. John Dick, followed by postdoctoral training in cancer genomics at OICR supervised by Dr. Tom Hudson.  
Bringing over a decade of leadership in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma research, Dr. Notta oversees the PanCuRx initiative to analyze pancreatic cancer directly in patients. His laboratory defined key transcriptional phenotypes of pancreatic cancer and determined how genomic rearrangements and cell-state lineage programs drive tumour evolution, dissemination, and therapeutic response.
Dr. Notta's group leverages advanced research platforms, including tumour-enriched whole-genome sequencing, patient-derived organoid pharmacotyping, and plasma whole-genome sequencing for liquid biopsy tracking. His research establishes essential frameworks for biomarker discovery, clinical diagnostics, and novel strategies to overcome treatment resistance in pancreatic cancer.
