Beatriz Salvador

Cardiff University, UK

Beatriz did her PhD at the Spanish National Cancer Research Institute (CNIO) supervised by Dr. Manuel Hidalgo and Dr. Marcos Malumbres. During her PhD she studied CDK4/6 inhibitors in combination with standard chemotherapies for the treatment of pancreatic cancer (Salvador-Barbero et al Cancer Cell 2020). In 2019 Beatriz moved to Cardiff University to join Catherine Hogan’s lab where she studied how Kras mutant cells override tissue homeostasis mechanisms to stay in the pancreas and eventually develop tumours (Salvador-Barbero et al Gastroenterology 2025). Since 2022, Beatriz is a Pancreatic Cancer UK Foundation Fellow leading a project to identify the pancreatic cancer initiating cells in pre-neoplastic lesions. In 2024, Beatriz was awarded a PCUK Research Innovation Fund to confirm the presence of Kras wild-type cells in pancreatic cancer pre-neoplasias and tumours and study their crosstalk with the microenvironment.
