Beatriz is a Biomedical Scientist recently awarded her PhD from the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR, 2023). Her scientific path began in 2008 at Dr. Isabel Fabregat’s laboratory during her training in Pathological Anatomy and Cytology at IDIBELL (Barcelona), an experience that sparked her long‑term commitment to cancer research. She completed her BSc in Biomedical Sciences (UB, 2014) and her MSc in Immunology (UB–UAB, 2016) in Barcelona before joining Dr. Patricia Sancho’s team to help establish a new research laboratory in Zaragoza. During her PhD, she investigated key features of pancreatic cancer stem cells (PaCSCs) to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities, contributing to discoveries on chemoresistance and metastasis using advanced preclinical models such as avatar mice and PDXs. This work led to two high‑impact publications: Parejo‑Alonso et al., Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy (2023) and Parejo‑Alonso et al., Cancer Research (2025). In these studies, they uncovered the roles of the MDK/PTN–ALK axis and PPAR‑δ in PDAC aggressiveness, metabolic reprogramming, and prometastatic behavior driven by tumor microenvironmental cues. She is now expanding her expertise as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on the immunoevasive phenotype of PaCSCs and their interactions with stromal‑derived components.
