Alejo Efeyan
Alejo Efeyan leads the Metabolism and Cell Signaling laboratory at the Spanish National Cancer Research Institute (CNIO) since 2016, where he studies the interplay of nutrients, hormones and human disease by combining mouse genetics with cell biology and biochemical approaches. His work aims to decipher how excessive nutrient intake and aberrant nutrient signaling impacts on systemic metabolism, cancer and the process of aging.
Alejo Efeyan studied Biological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires. He then obtained his PhD on Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid, under the direction of Manuel Serrano, studying the tumor suppression by TP53 with genetically-engineered mice. Alejo then joined the David M Sabatini Lab at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT, where he developed novel mouse models to study mechanisms of nutrient sensingand responses in the context of mammalian organisms.
